If you have received an automated notification from Dynamic Servers Limited about backups stored within your hosting account, these files will need to be removed.
You can either:
- Remove the backups and disable the backup plugin.
- Keep the plugin enabled, but delete the backup files you have been notified about.
Dynamic Servers Limited already creates backups of your hosting account in the background. Because of this, additional cPanel or WordPress backups stored inside your account are usually not needed and can quickly use up your available disk space.
Removing WordPress Backups
If the backups were created by a WordPress plugin, you can usually remove them from within your WordPress admin area.
To do this:
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to the backup plugin that created the files.
- Select the backups listed.
- Delete the backups you no longer need.
You may also wish to disable the plugin if it is no longer required.
Removing WordPress Backups Using cPanel File Manager
You can also remove backup files directly from your hosting account using cPanel File Manager.
To do this:
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Open File Manager.
- Navigate to your website files, usually inside the public_html folder.
- Locate the backup folder created by the plugin.
- Delete the backup files.
Common WordPress backup locations include:
/wp-content/updraft/
/wp-content/ai1wm-backups/
/wp-content/backups-dup-pro/
/wp-content/backups-dup-lite/
/wp-content/uploads/
These folders are commonly used by plugins such as UpdraftPlus, All-in-One WP Migration, Duplicator Pro, Duplicator Lite and BackupBuddy.
Removing cPanel Backups
If the notification relates to cPanel backup files, these can usually be found in your account’s home directory.
To remove them:
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Open File Manager.
- Go to your home directory.
- Look for backup files with names similar to:
backup-6.3.2020_08-59-26_username.tar.gz
- Delete any old or unnecessary cPanel backup files.
